Some Major Shifts within Second Tier

Some Major Shifts within Second Tier

by Rev. Alia Aurami, Ph.D.
Head Minister, "Amplifying Divine Light in All" Church

Have you considered or noticed some significant changes within the two stages of "Second Tier?" Some of us have, and I'd like to mention my view of some of them. What are yours?

I'll label these Yellow and Turquoise but your labels might be Teal and Turquoise, or something else.....

The Shift from Purpose to Impulse

From the Yellow worldview, Purpose is what sets everything and drives everything. It sets the value of anything, and sets the priority of anything. While there is Flex-Flow, it is more likely based on considerations of accomplishing a Purpose than on the impulses of the moment.

From the Turquoise worldview, actions, choices, decisions, are more likely to be done without a conscious "reason" or "purpose." They are more from impulses which arise from the sensed "field" of subtle energetic flows which are happening in the person's immediate circumstance, and which in turn arise from a vaster complex of purposes which are both personal and transpersonal, driven by the collective emergent intelligence of the situation

The Turquoise person has learned to trust their impulses, their "instincts," and there is a basic shift

from the impetus for action being guided by externals, to being guided by internals.

The "Flex-Flow" is less consciously-driven, more spontaneous, more "now-based." The benefits or consequences tend to become apparent afterward (if at all) rather than forming the basis for motivations and decisions beforehand.

The Shift from Looking Down to Looking Up: From Humanity to Spirit

It seems to me that these changes reflect a radical shift in focus from Yellow to Turquoise, which I have heard likened to a whole Tier shift, and I align with that view.

I describe the shift this way: Yellow is looking "down" at the entire Spiral, focused on orchestrating all the colors together for the wellbeing of the whole. Their focus is on people and interpersonal dynamics and quality of human life.

Their spiritual life is one of interest, exploration, experimentation, and practice.

There comes a point however at which that spiritual life shifts to experience (and in Third Tier, to embodiment.) At this point, the person's focus of life attention actually shifts from looking "downward" to "looking upward." There is somewhat less concern with helping others get along for the best benefit of all, so that good purposes can be accomplished, and somewhat more concern with expanding their own and others' inner world in ways which "transcend" the worlds of physicality, of space and time, of interpersonal matters.

(Not that human life is of any less value. The new greater value of spirituality is seen as contributing even more profoundly to the quality of human life than was possible from within previous stage worldviews.) (Note that with a move into Third Tier, IMO some radical shifts in basis of morality and views about "good and bad" take place, but that's another blog, at some future date. For now, between Yellow and Turq, I don't see those aspects as changing as much.)

Subtle energies and energy "fields" are actually perceived and experienced, not just objects of study and cultivation. They can be used, worked with, invoked, incorporated into moment-to-moment living in every arena of life.

It is therefore of less significance to the Turquoise-oriented person, which person around them is expressing what color at which moment for which purpose. They find it of more significance what the field is expressing in, as, and through, the people involved.

We might say that the orchestrating of differences takes less attention than the orchestrating of similarities, and what was done consciously at Yellow has become subconscious, automatic, within the behavioral repertoire of Turquoise, who is at the conscious level playing with new and different factors.

Putting all this another way, we might say that this shift could be described as from a concern with the quality of human life into a concern with waking up from the dream of "only-human" life. There is, as some have noted, seemingly a radical increase from Y to T in interest and life-energy/focus on the spiritual line of development -- or perhaps it's just that our definitions of these structure-stages are formed such that this shift appears to define the changes.

The Shift in Leadership-from-Models to Leadership-from-Presence

The changes described above can show up as changes in Leadership style. Yellow is more likely, I think, to use various Theories and Models of Leadership as the basis for operating, including models and theories of human development such as from Ken Wilber or Spiral Dynamics. Yellow-centered folks generally have learned several "systems" and have transcended them all by forming their own unique blend, but it is still a blend of systems. Their blend is unique to them, but it is still a blend of systems they dance within, in contrast to the system-less spontaneity Turquoise leadership has access to, is capable of, as they dance with the Now.

Turquoise, it seems to me, is more likely to be drawn to Presence-based Leadership which relies on leaders sensing the subtle-energetic "field" in which they have leadership functions, and operating out of impulses which arise from that, with fewer predefined parameters/limits to what they might end up saying or doing. See this paper from the Global Transforming Ensemble for a description of what I am referring to.

Turquoise leadership might also therefore be drawn to Holacracy from the angle of leadership decisions being made by "tuning in" to or being activated by the "soul of the organization" as an energetic field (or as a Being, which is perhaps a more likely perception in Third Tier) which can be of guidance and to whom all are in service. (In Third Tier, it would be a matter of embodying and then of Being, rather than being guided by and communicated with.)

So that's my flyover of this territory, glossing over a lot of relevant distinctions. What are your ideas about this? What have you experienced? What rabbit holes in the territory have you delved into?

Hey I thought this was really well said. Appreciate your exploration of these distinctions. It's very subtle stuff. You've helped clarify more own position in the spiral for now :) Thanks.
